Fall is not just about the beautiful colors of leaves. It is also harvest time in the fields next to Apple Haus B&B in South Amana, IA. Harvest time is a night and day operation, get the crops in while the weather cooperates.
Enjoy!
There is nothing like the drama in the sky after a clearing, late afternoon thunderstorm. The light is magical, the clouds impressive, and the landscape comes alive! This panoramic image was taken at Apple Haus B&B in the historic Amana Colonies. Our sunset vista viewing area is a great place to see dramatic sunsets and experience the solitude of the rural lifestyle.
This photo is a composite of 6 separate, overlapping images, shot in portrait orientation and merged in Adobe Lightroom. Camera: Fuji XT3, 35mm f/2 prime lens. All six images shot at 1/250 sec at f/8, ISO 160. The merger yields a .dng RAW file with dimensions of 17,563 x 6,412 pixels.
Camera: Fuji XT3 with 23mm f/1.4 prime lens. Exposure 10s at f/2, ISO 3200.
A great view of comet NEOWISE last night from the Farm House kitchen deck at Apple Haus B&B. The comet is visible to the naked eye, but is even better with a pair of binoculars. Taking photos of the comet is quite easy, but a tripod is required. The big dipper easily seen in the upper left quarter of the image. A few short streaks in the sky are satellites. Airplanes have a different appearance with their flashing navigation lights. I see satellites often at Apple Haus. Space is not as empty as you might think, it's getting crowded up there.
This comet is amazing. The best one I have seen since Hale-Bopp in the mid-90's. Check it out when you have a chance, it will be moving higher in the sky as the days go on, but the moon will start to interfere with viewing. Be sure to go to a dark site to get a good night sky with very little light pollution. Skies at Apple Haus are excellent for viewing the stars, planets and moon.
I received this email from B&W Magazine a little over a week ago.
